Woman brands husband as childish over his irritating ‘made-up language’

A woman has reached her wits end with her husband over his “constant” use of made-up words and noises, as she’s concerned for the “language development” of their kids

As children, many of us will have sat down with siblings or friends to devise a secret language that no-one else would understand.

But while we ditched those nonsense words as we got older, one woman has claimed her husband has never let go of his own made-up language – and it’s proving to be “difficult to live with”.

Posting on Reddit, the woman explained her spouse has “always been a bit goofy”, but his annoying behaviour has increased over the past 18 months.

She wrote: “My other half has always been a bit goofy, giving his own names to things and doing impressions.

“About 18 months ago this started to increase a lot. It’s now a constant presence in our lives and I’m finding it difficult to live with.”

The woman said her husband has between 30 and 40 random words he uses in place of “normal ones”, as well as alternate names for shops and even different names for their friends.

And after putting up with the bizarre behaviour for years, the woman admitted she has “had enough” – but her husband doesn’t seem to care.

She said: “I’ve just had enough. We got into bed the other night and I said ‘goodnight’ and he said ‘bagayaya’ in the high-pitched voice he always does it in. I snapped and asked why he couldn’t just speak to me normally and he just laughed and came right up close to my face and did it again.”

What’s more, the man even speaks to his young child in the made-up language, leaving his wife worried about what it might do to the kid’s “normal language development”.

She added: “He speaks to our kid in this stupid language, and I’m worried it’s going to confuse normal language development because he changes the words so often.

“Our toddler could be about to hurt themselves and instead of saying ‘no’ or ‘come here’, he’ll say some ridiculous made-up word or sound and then get annoyed when our kid doesn’t know what he wants.”

The woman said her spouse is “totally professional” while at work, but is a completely different person when he comes home.

But the man believes his wife just “can’t take a joke”.

The woman concluded her post: “He’s ‘normal’ in other respects, works in finance and is totally professional around his colleagues but different at home.

“I told him it needs to stop. I don’t mind it occasionally or for fun but it’s all the time and it’s wearing me down.

“He got upset and said I couldn’t take a joke and that I’m not fun anymore.

“It’s true that I’ve become more irritable and noise averse since we had kids, but I’m so worn out and over it and just want him to relate to me like an adult.”

Fellow Redditors were shocked by the man’s “irritating” behaviour and insisted the woman was not at fault for snapping at him.

One person wrote: “I’d have snapped long before you did. Your husband is being incredibly childish and annoying. The fact that he doesn’t do it at work shows that he knows it’s not appropriate and that other adults wouldn’t approve.”

While another said: “That’s so irritating. That’s abnormal conduct for adults, it’s unreasonable, highly embarrassing and immature.”

And someone else posted: “I was getting irritated just reading the post I can’t imagine actually living with someone who behaves like this.”
